Mission / History
Created in 1926, the French Committee on Large Dams adopted the statutes of a non-profit association (loi 1er Juillet 1901) in 1931. It contributed to the creation of the International Commission on Large Dams, established in Paris in 1928, to which it is affiliated.
At the General Assembly of January 27, 2005, it decided to change its name. It became the French Committee on Dams and Reservoirs (CFBR). Its current statutes were approved at the Extraordinary General Assembly of November 27, 2019.
The Committee’s mission is to promote progress in the design, construction, maintenance and operation of dams, including powerhouses when they are integrated into dams.
The Committee fulfills its mission through the exchange of information among its members. Each year, it organizes a Technical Conference open to the entire profession. It coordinates national working groups responsible for developing recommendations.
The Committee actively participates in the work of the International Commission on Large Dams. It is represented on the ICOLD Technical Committees and contributes to the drafting of bulletins published by the International Commission, which serve as the international reference in the profession.
The CFBR participates in the General Assemblies and International Congresses on Large Dams by presenting reports on the items on the agenda.
